Softball baserunning starts with your at bat. How you get out of the batters box and then around the bases will determine your success. Getting out of the batters box is not always considered an important skill but it is actually one of the most important. This is where speed, power, instinct and knowledge of the rules is your best friend. Good mechanics on leading off and baserunning are also important in every second that counts on advancing to the next base. Sliding and evading tags are especially important at home plate when the catcher has the ball. In some leagues, it is even mandatory to slide at some bases.
